Van Helsing by Sideshow
Adding to their already solid stable of Heroes, Villains, and Monsters they have, Sideshow has created a series of figures based on this summers underappreciated Blockbuster 'Van Helsing'.
Gabriel Van Helsing, Slayer of Monsters for the Holy Mother Church is a man with a past he can't remember, a destiny he wishes he is reluctant for, and a gift for destruction that could have only come from God himself. Played by Hugh Jackman, in the film, this slayer who plays Yin to Count Dracula's Yang is faithfully reproduced in this 12 inch version.
He has the likeness of Mr. Jackman, especially the eyes, which some consider the most important part of nailing a likeness. He comes with Removable hat and Vinyl overcoat and vest featuring a chain with Van Helsing's various religious Talisman's used in battle/. Cloth Pants, shirt, and scarf round out the rest of the outfit and all are extremely well done. For a bit of humor, take off the coat and he looks like the Gay Cowboy from Hell! Still makes an awesome figure though.
Accessories include Van Helsing's twin Pistols, and the Holy Water infused Machine Crossbow designed by Carl the monk, the proverbial Q to Van Helsing's Bond.
The Pistols are very well detailed, featuring Crosses on the Grips and runes on the barrels. They also fit nicely into the specially designed pockets on Van Helsing's Overcoat.
The Crossbow is just as detailed if not more so. The wings also collapse to make it compact for travel. My only gripe, and it could just be an isolated thing, but the chamber is a separate piece and comes off, but is difficult to re-attach and stay. It's loose and falls off easily, so I recommend a light coat with a glue stick just to keep it holding. Other than that, it's really an amazing piece of work.
Of course, this being a Sideshow figure there is a version out there with a limited edition accessory that you could only get by pre ordering through Sideshow's website. The exclusive accessory for Van Helsing are his Tojo Blades.
Lastly, it should be noted that unlike most Sideshow figures, Van Helsing does not come with a stand.
Also in this series is Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious as well as several Statues and Mini Busts.
