Dravens
and Balrogs and Halloween, OH MY!
Now we know that NECA has had a
stellar year in 2003, and believe it or not, their plans for
2004 are shaping up to make previous efforts pale in comparison.
So how do they do it? Simple,
THEY LISTEN TO THE FANS!!!
Reel Toys/NECA has taken almost
every solid fan request from the last 5 years and turned them
into a reality. First with Hellraiser, Ghostbusters,
Gremlins, and 18 inch Jason. And now plans are announced
to bring Dr. Sam Loomis to figure form finally in a
'Halloween' 2 pack with his Nemesis, Michael Myers.
Also announced is an 18-20" version
of the Balrog from the 'Lord of the Rings' films, that
will actually be in scale with the figures from the Toy Biz
line. This has been a highly requested figure ever since
Toy Biz canceled plans for a version 2 years ago.
The other great thing about NECA is
that they can also think like a fan, since they are in fact,
fanboys themselves. They have snatched up such new lines
as 'Pirates of the Caribbean', and 'Freddy vs Jason'
as well as putting a new spin on fan favorites like 'The Crow'.
Not only will NECA release the
popular Brandon Lee version of 'The Crow', but they will
also have a version of Eric Draven fresh from the grave,
shirtless and face unpainted.
And to think, Toy Fair has just
begun. Keep it here to find out what could be next from
this great new Toy Company.

Ghostbusters pics: Gozer the Gozarian

Well, you take time out to watch 1
Football game and before you know it, everyone is showing stuff
before you. Seriously though, you may have seen it
already, but here she is as we promised; NECA's Gozer the
Gozerian from Series 1 of their Ghostbusters line. As
stated below, The flattop will come with interchangeable heads
and hands, and rounds out Series 1 of a long demanded line
nicely.
Also, for those that are wondering
"Where are The Freakin Ghostbusters?!" NECA wants you to
know that they are hard at work on brining you figures of your
favorite Ecto Exterminators so keep checking back for news.
More Alien Vs Predator Info

Movie based statues and action
figures in the works! Here is a report from Figures.com editor
Jeff Saylor, all the way from UK Toy Fair.
MOVIE SPOILERS BELOW: read at your own
risk
The UK Toy Fair unveiled several collectible license holders for
this summers anticipated motion picture: Alien vs. Predator (AVP).
On the action figure front, McFarlane Toys will usher in the
goods. Unlike last years Alien and Predator based Movie Maniacs
6, this yet to be announced assortment will stand alone as its
own line - much like their previous Terminator 3 figures.
High-end resin collectibles will be in the good hands of
Palisades. Very much like McFarlane, Palisades is no stranger to
the properity. Palisades' upcoming AVP pieces were shown at the
UK Toy Fair in the form of concept art. Due to licensing
restrictions via FOX, (read movie image spoilers), we are not
permitted to show you these. I will say that an Alien and
Predator with intricate interlocking bases are involved. As is
an Alien Queen.
From movie images I was shown, the Aliens look pretty much like
the smooth-domed critters of Alien 4 - though a tad bulkier at
the shoulders. These were NOT designed by HR Giger. Like the
fourth movie - Alien: Resurrection - they will be depicted as
being extremely resourceful. The Predators share a similar
former movie appearance. New points of interest include longer
retractable wrist claws and the use of a net. They also share a
passion for architecture - old Egyptian/Inca style.
Overall, the film and collectibles will appeal to the many
eagerily awaiting this epic duel. Place your bets on who will
win now!

LOOK @ ZUUL

Today brings us a look at the only
time in history you can truly call Sigourney Weaver a dog.
Zuul here may look a lot like Vinz
from yesterday, and understandably so becausethey beasically
share the same mold. However, let me take a minute to show
you just how committed to detail NECA is.
There is a slight difference between
the 2 dogs. If you compare the pics side by side, you will
notice that Vinz, the male, has longer horns than Zuul. It
is a detail taken straight from the film, and something that
could have been easily overlooked or ignored. Instead,
they go for every possible detail they could in bringing you a
reason for Die Hard fans to buy both rather than just settle for
the one.
Now, we will take a brief recess
from our Daily Ghostbuster revelations, and return Monday to
show you the most impressive flat-top to come around since
McFarlane's Terminator figure. Come back next week as we
unveil Gozer the Gozerian. Until then, Have a great
weekend!
Palisades
recruits the Army of Darkness

Lots of good stuff has been shown at
this week's UK Toy Fair, and one of the one's we've been waiting
on is Palisades' new figure line based on 'Army of Darkness' and
after checking out the above pics from our sister site,
Figures.com's UK Toy Fair coverage, we're more excited than
ever.
Several incarnations of characters
from 'AOD' have been produced over the last few years, so what's
Palisades' strategy to being different? They're making the
whole freaking ARMY!!! At least that's the impression I
get by looking at their lineup for the first 2 series.
In addition to Series Manistays Ash,
Evil Ash, and the Pit Witch, Palisades is rounding out the rest
of the series' with different Knights. There are a couple of
Skeleton Knights, and a human knight which is fine by us because
there is a serious lack of Knight figures in the Toy World
today.
Check back soon for more info on
this great new line, and check out the rest of the UK Toy Fair
coverage

NECA Reel Toys has a few surprises

Rings. The first prototypes are making their debut this weekend
at the UK Toy Fair. Images and full details will be revealed in

LOOK @ SLIMER and Details on Ghostbusters Series 1

NECA product manager Randy Falk
stopped by The Asylum to share a little bit of info on the
upcoming, long demanded, Ghostbusters line. Here's what
Randy had to say.
"The
figures are basically 7" scale. This is a vague definition of
scale but let's say they would fit in with our Hellraiser size
figures. Gozer stands about 6 3/4"
The Terror Dogs (with light up eyes are big - very big) and
Slimer is about 3"-3 1/2" and comes with a base he can be
displayed on or off and an assortment of food and drink.
Stay Puft stands about 15" tall - our original specs called for
18" but when we created the prototpye and saw how BIG he is in
proportion legs, arms, torso 18" was too big especially since we
are trying to keep the cost for Stay Puft under $20. When you
see him displayed with the rest of the figures you will be
pleased for Puft Daddy is a BIG toy and looks awesome.
The Slimer and Puft were re-sculpted for their toy versions and
are articulated. Here is a brief rundown of the articulation:
Slimer - Sculpts: Shawn Nagle
neck (so well hidden in the fat folds you don't even know it is
there)
ball jointed shoulders
wrists
Gozer - Sculpt: Sam Greenwell
neck (comes with 2 different heads)
interchangeable hands with energy beams
shoulders
wrists
v-crotch
Terror Dogs - Sculpts: Shawn Nagle
neck (up and down and side to side)
legs
light up eyes
Stay Puft - Sculpts: Shawn Nagle
neck
ball jointed shoulders
legs
more "
We hope you
also enjoy our exclusive first look at Slimer Keep checking back

Series 1 member (except for 'Puft Daddy' who will debut at Toy
Fair)

In a most surprising turn, some new
19 inch figures coming your way from NECA are of Aragorn and
Legolas from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Both will

Product Manager Randy Falk comments:
"There is more

weeks for images, details, specs and how this came to be."
Personally we
can't wait to hear more, and Randy promises that more surprises

Toyfare
#77 offers News Galore

Now we are avid readers of Toyfare
magazine, but not usually for anything newswise. We like the
humor and interesting articles they come up with, but Toyfare
usually tends to be a little behind on news, that is, until this
issue.
Yes, in Toyfare's 2004 preview
issue, they unleash the details on many projects we'd heard of,
some we figured were coming, and some we had no clue at all were
in the works. Here's the goods:
Ghostbusters
from NECA

Why not get right to it. The
line fans have been demanding for years is finally being produced
by the company that grabs the licenses fans have been wanting for
years (following me there?)
Hot on the heels of their
announced Ghostbusters Body Knockers, Neca rep Chris Farinas
confirms plans for the Ghostbusters action figure line. The
kicker here is that the first series, at this time, features no
Ghostbusters! Instead, they will concentrate on the first
film's creatures.
Series 1 will consist of Terror
Dogs Vinz Clortho and Zuul, both with Temple bases and light up
eyes, Gozer the Gozarian with Interchangable head, hands, and
translucent energy beams, everyone's favorite ugly little spud 'Slimer',
with ecto base and munching action, and last but certainly not
least, and 18 inch Stay Puft Marshmallow man with City Street
base, interchangeable heads and moving eyes.
One cool note is that the bases of
Gozer and the Terror Dogs will connect to form the rooftop Diorama
from the end of the film.
Fans of the busters themselves
need not worry though, Neca will be releasing the fearsome
foursome and slimer in their new 'Geom' line of block figures.
KILL
BILL from NECA
We knew it was coming, but not
quite who. Now we do.
Series 1 of Kill Bill will consist
of The Bride, O-Ren Ishii, Crazy 88, and at the personal request
of Mr. Tarantino himself (as if they needed that to convince them)
Ms. Go Go Yubari herself.
Freddy
Vs. Jason NECA
Sure it's a lot of NECA coverage,
but hey, they have what the fans want.
We've seen the pics of the
prototype for this great set, but we get a few more details now
about the accessories. As not to spoil anything from the
film for those who haven't seen it, just click and drag your mouse
on the test below to see what these bad boys are coming with.
FREDDY VS JASON
SPOILERS
The Freddy figure
will come with a removable hat, arm, and head, while Jason will
come with Machete, alternate hand, and 'winking' freddy head.
Freddy
Vs. Jason SIDESHOW
Most of you have seen the pics of
this one as well, so it is again on the accessories we are
reporting.
Freddy will come with removable
hat, damaged Jason Mask, and his glove will feature finger
articulation!
Jason will come with 2 Machete's;
Bloody and Flaming, it will be 14 inches tall, but the mask will
not be removable.
Buffy
by MAC and Diamond Select
Recently given a much deserved
stay of execution, the line now will rely on fans to back up the
outpouring of cries that initially saved the line in the first
place.
The first new release will be a
new version of Willow, short haired version from later seasons, as
well as a chase figure with a different head showing Willow with
blackened eyes, tapping into her dark powers.
After that, MAC also has a Dark
Witch version of Will ready to go, and Toyfare announces that they
will carry exclusively, Vampire Willow. Wait, isn't the show
called Buffy? Don't get us wrong though, we're more than
happy to see these versions of our favorite redhead instead of yet
another Buffy.
From there, the sky's the limit.
As long as fans support the line, they will keep making them, and
list several possibilities for figures featuring main characters,
and everything from Initiative soldiers to D'hoffryn. Even a
possible Tara and Willow 2 pack.
Buffy
by Sideshow
It's no secret that Sideshow's new
Buffy stuff looks amazing. So imagine our delight when it
was mentioned that the 4th member of the line will be FAITH.
12 inches of realistic Eliza Dushku goodness. We can hardly
wait!
The
Crow by NECA

Not much to say because the pic
says it all. Just behold this work of 18 inches of art, and
be excited in the fact that they tease that the best is yet to
come for the 18 inch line.
