Updates for 3-15

Resident Evil in theaters today

It's been a long hard road, but the film that survival Horror gamers have been waiting on is finally here, and better yet, it just may deliver!

The history of getting this picture made has been sordid at best.  It has gone through many scripts, story ideas, directors etc. and when the dust settled, it landed in the hands of  Director Paul Anderson (Mortal Kombat) and Milla Jovovich (The Messenger, The 5th Element).  Things looked grim, until we learned that both were actually big fans of the games.  Co-Star Michelle Rodriguez, is also a big fan, and this team actually brought some interesting cards to the table such as a fresh new cast of characters that you don't know the future of, the origins of the Mansion and the Lickers, a supercomputer with a holographic representation of what may be little Alexia Ashford and more of an insight into Umbrella Corperation.

Still have doubts?  Are you a die hard fan of the game who is still wary of such newness?  Well then we suggest you check out an article from the latest Official US Playstation Magazine.  After reading it we felt MUCH better with all things involved in this film, from the stars, to the Zombies.  CLICK HERE to check it out scanned super large for your reading pleasure, so please allow load time..

Of course, we will offer our thoughts after the weekend, but in the meantime, feel free to discuss your opinions or read others on our Message Board. -Russ 37

James Cameron gets involved in 'Alien 5,' Ridley Scott steps away

It's now confirmed that, according to a recent comment from Ridley Scott in 'Total Film' magazine, James Cameron is now involved in the fifth 'Alien' film. Just how he is involved is currently unknown. Scott also announced, sadly, that he has moved away from the project, which means that his personal story ideas are no longer likely to be used. The first tipoff came from Badism. - Bishop

Do YOU have new Spawn?

Although we don't "Officially" cover it (COUGH, Product Samples, COUGH) we thought we would let you know, if you didn't already, that Spawn Series 21, Alternate Realities, are now in stores and are the most amazing looking ones to date.  You would be hard pressed to find at least one you didn't like.

We have also learned of a major variation on the Alien Spawn 2.  So far it has been reported to us that he comes in at least 2 colors; Orange and Green.  Look for him along with Wings of Redemption, Raven, She 2, Pirate, and Throne Spawn in your local stores. - Russ 37

'Red Dragon' release date moves up; James Pickens Jr. joins the cast list

The Hannibal Lecter prequel has been bumped up to October 4th of this year. Additionally, James Pickens Jr., best known as Deputy Director Alvin Kersh on 'The X-Files,' has stated that he has a role in the film. Thanks to Dark Horizons and Sci-Fi Wire.- Bishop

Michael Bay's 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' remake to be light on gore

Bay claims he's taking a cue from films like 'The Others,' 'The Sixth Sense,' and 'The Blair Witch Project.' That's why he says the new TCM remake will be low on blood and gore. No doubt this related to the fact that Bay is involved in a director's committee against film violence. New Line subsidiary Fine Line Features president, Mark Ordesky, insists that the film will still carry an "R" rating, however. Thanks to Sci-Fi Wire again. - Bishop

The Scotsman reports that filming is scheduled to shoot in Scotland and Oklahoma at the end of the year, under the title of 'The Riding of the Laddie.' It will be directed by Robin Hardy, who also handled the original. Thanks, yup, to Dark Horizons. - Bishop

Have you joined the Brotherhood?

It's long overdue, but I finally got a chance to catch 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' at my local theater and it is nothing short of amazing.  How the academy missed this one, I do not know, but it is wonderfully epic film with plenty of action, plot, and intrigue for anyone.  Whether you have been debating, or just wanting to see something different I highly suggest you check it out immediately.  - Russ 37

Updates for 3-9

'Resident Evil: Nemesis,' the sequel to the first film, being written

Banking on the success of the first movie once it hits theaters, director Paul Anderson has already started writing the sequel, tentatively titled 'Resident Evil: Nemesis.' As the title suggests, the sequel script will involve the Nemesis monster made famous in the third "Resident Evil" Playstation game. The survivor(s) of the original film is/are already signed to return. - Bishop

'Blade 3' pretty much a done deal

The primary creative team behind 'Blade 2' - director Guillermo del Toro, writer David Goyer, and star Wesley Snipes - is unofficially set to do 'Blade 3.' According to Goyer, “If we get our way in the third film, it’s going to take place 25 years after Blade 2. Blade, because he’s half human/half vampire, he ages more slowly – he would still be played by [Wesley Snipes]. But when the third film opens... nobody’s seen Blade for like 15 years. Nobody knows where he is. And the world has changed and the vampires have actually taken over. In Blade 3, the vampires are the status quo. They’ve imprisoned all the humans. The humans are the slave force and are in concentration camps… things like that. In a way, Blade 3 would sort of go the way of 'The Dark Knight Returns.' In the first 'Dark Knight' story, nobody’s heard from Batman in 10 years and the world has kind of gone to shit." - Bishop

His next film is 'Van Helsing,' which focuses on the old vampire hunter made famous by Bram Stoker's original "Dracula" novel. It really is entirely dependent on the take on the material. It's all about material. I've been asked about Alien 5 and I said of course. We've started a script meeting. Are McFarlane's new 'Souls' too Tortured?

We have filled in the blank on the new line of  Tortured Souls by adding "Moribundi" to the section in the only form we have seen him in so far, a McFarlane Silhouette.  This figure is so controversial it couldn't be photographed at Toy Fair and was left off of McFarlane's online catalog.  We don't have the greatest feeling about it from the description, but keep watching the page for info nontheless.

Updates for 2-13

Why No Jason???

We, like many if you were crushed when there was no mention of an 18 inch classic Jason at Toy Fair.  Namely, because we want one really really bad, and secondly, it's the only thing we announced that didn't come to light, therefore giving the naysayers ammo to use against us.  Well, we found out that we weren't totally wrong in our announcement.

McFarlane's own Drew Hutchinson confirms to us that 18 inch Jason WAS planned! Then ,apparently, the Jersey boys made the suggestion, and when Todd found out the scissors would move in a cutting manor, it was a go..   I am assuming this means automated, which would make the figure slightly more appealing.  In the end though, we would still prefer the man behind the mask.

Updates for 2-12

Arnold or Bust

An Anonymous source writes in from Toy Fair 2002 to let us know about a very interesting detail with the 18 inch T-800 figure.  Some of you may have noticed that there is an Extra head next to the figure in the Virtual Showroom Tour from the official website.  Here is a Screen Grab in case you missed it.

Well, apparently McFarlane plans to pursue and obtain the likeness rights to make this figure as real a possible.  If they cannot get permission to use Arnold's likeness, they plan to replace the figure in the line, possibly with an 18 inch version of the Endoskeleton, making it the first time in the lines's history the regular size and 18 inch version of the same figure were released in the same line.

We'll keep you posted on what we find out, but we salute McFarlane for their passion and Attitude about getting this figure right!

Sections Updated

Now hot new rookie company Mezco ads Mez-It's to the fold debuting several new lines from Run DMC to Austin Powers.  They will also be producing mini versions of Freddy Jason and Leatherface for the line.  We will have pics up soon so keep watching the page.

OUR BOARD.

OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION: MOVIE MANIACS SERIES 5

Well, it has now been officially confirmed by McFarlane, but it's no surprise to you if you are a regular reader of ours.  For the 4th year running, MovieManiacs.Net has broke the news on just who is in the new line.  Here is the official listing from McFarlane.

The Djinn from "Wishmaster"

Jason X from the upcoming "Jason X"

The Lord of Darkness from "Legend"

The Tooth Fairy from the upcoming "Don't Peek"

Sarah Conner from "Terminator 2"

Endoskeleton from "Terminator 2"

DELUXE BOXED SET

Alien And Predator from "Alien" and "Predator"

18 Inch Figures

T-800 Terminator from "Terminator 2"

Edward Scissorhands from "Edward Scissorhands"

As we say every year though we will always be the first to admit when we are wrong, and, through information from various sources, we heard it was Jason't time to shine as an 18 " figure, but he is seemingly replaced by Edward Scissorhands in the lineup.  We will try to get more info on the reasons behind this so keep watching the page.  As a fan, I must say this is Massive dissapointment in the 18 inch arena this year.  Edward seems more of a candidate for the 12 inch arena and The T-800 was a Bittersweet figure last year due to the loss of realism due to likeness rights and I would be lying if I said I wasn't surprised at the decision to give him the 18 inch treatment.

Updates for 2-9

Could Lance Henriksen return in 'Terminator 3'?

Henriksen may think so. In a scoop that initially appeared at The Arnold Fan, the following was stated - "As James Cameron had helped as an additional writer to the T3 script, Henriksen informed me Cameron was toying around with the idea of having detective Vukovich return in a wheelchair with some battle damage. As we never do see detective Vukovich die, but only rather an implied death, many Henriksen fans would love to see a return." Given that it has never been suggested until now that Cameron was involved with the movie (in fact, he supposedly has "let go" of the franchise entirely), there's a possibility that someone's leg is being pulled here. - Bishop

Will 'The Chronicles of Riddick' really be a 'Pitch Black' sequel?

Originally, it was reported many times over that 'The Chronicles of Riddick' would be a prequel delving into the backstory of the criminal Riddick, played by Vin Diesel. Now, Ja Rule is saying that he is going to be in the film, and that the movie is actually not a prequel, but a true sequel to 'Pitch Black' with the nocturnal creatures returning for more. Rule says that "'Riddick' is, ... it's not scary, but it's like a creature movie," says the rapper-turned-actor. "It's like Pitch Black 2. We're on another planet and it's crazy. These creatures come out only in the dark, and we can only see in the dark." This implies that Rule's character has the same "shine job" as Riddick, providing him with night vision. Rule also mentioned that 'Riddick' will film in Australia, the same location as the original movie. Thanks to Dark Horizons. - Bishop

Jonathan Mostow hoping to direct 'House at the End of the Street' after T3
