One of our own, Randy of ASK RANDY, posted up a great early review of the coming film 'They' in the MM.net message forum. Available in both "spoiler" and "non-spoiler" versions, check out his review right here on the board. It sounds like a very intriguing monster/horror/suspense film. Be sure to register for the board and join us while you're there. - Bishop

Creature Corner has managed to confirm a rumor that hit AICN a few days back. Critical Mass Releasing, the company responsible for the Canadian DVD of the original 'Black Christmas,' is planning on making their first foray into theatrical films with the sequel to the 1974 original. Original stars Oliva Hussey and John Saxon are both planned to return, and both seem willing. - Bishop
We've waited a long time, and now we know that we can finally expect the new ED SE on March 5 of 2002. It will be available in both a standard edition for $19.99 and a deluxe "Book of the Dead" edition for $49.95. The deluxe box has special packaging designed by Tom Savini based on the Necronomicon, and comes with a 24-page booklet. Despite the fact that the film was shot full-frame, both discs are presented in a new, THX-certified 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, per Sam Raimi's wishes. Other features include Dolby Surround EX and DTS ES surround mixes, audio commentary with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert and a second commentary with actor Bruce Campbell (likely the same commentaries from the Elite Edition disc), behind-the-scenes footage, the complete original short film 'Within The Woods,' trailers and TV spots, and even more to be announced soon. Thanks to DVDFile - Bishop

Updates for 11-27
IGN FilmForce has posted a number of images from this upcoming spinoff of 'The Mummy' franchise. The first page of pictures is here, and the second page is here. Meanwhile, RockRage has this report, which reveals that Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has been put in charge of compiling the film's rock-based soundtrack. This doesn't mean that he'll be writing the background score that will play during the movie. Rather, he'll be choosing the bands that will go on the CD full of music "inspired by" the film. So far, not only is Godsmack on the album, but so is Disturbed, Sevendust, and Methods of Mayhem. As for the movie itself, 'The Scorpion King' hits theaters April 19, 2002. - Bishop
The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Collision Entertainment is going to be producing a film based on the horror PC Game 'Nocturne.' The movie will be released through Dimension Films, which is shooting for a PG-13 rating. The script has already been written, by Brent Friedman ('Mortal Kombat: Annhilation') and Steve De Jarnatt ('Strange Brew'). - Bishop
Wake the kids and call the neighbors. According to both Coming Attractions and Dark Horizons, two new screenwriters have been put on the 'Freddy vs. Jason' project by New Line. They are Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, best known for writing the not-yet-produced script for the film 'Danger Girl.' According to James Issac, the director of 'Jason X,' the Swift/Shannon draft "is the draft that New Line WILL be going with." - Bishop
If you're in Europe... or feel like importing a Game Boy Color game... well, here's a game for you. 'Resident Evil Gaiden,' a game that is not currently planned for release anywhere else, has gone on sale on the other side of the Atlantic. In the game, you play as Barry Burton from the first RE, aboard a pleasure cruise that is infested with zombies. The game takes place largely in an overhead perspective, with a first-person view reserved for the battles. To see the game in all of its 8-bit glory, check out this preview from IGN. - Bishop
The Dreamworks remake of the Asian horror film 'The Ring' is currently filming, but the cast is still being built. The latest addition is Martin Henderson, an actor from New Zealand who is in John Woo's upcoming 'Windtalkers.' Henderson is playing the photojournalist ex-husband of the main heroine. - Bishop
Updates for 11-26
Variety broke the news that the script for 'Terminator 3' is finished, and Arnold is eager to start shooting. Filming should commence in the spring or summer of 2002. What's really interesting about this, though, is that the film is currently budgeted at $160 million dollars. That beats the previous "planned budget" record holder, 'Pearl Harbor,' by about $25 million. - Bishop
The newest Lecter film has its Jack Crawford. Keitel is playing the man, making him the third actor to portray the character on film. Jack Crawford was previously played by Dennis Farina in 'Manhunter' and Scott Glenn in 'Silence of the Lambs.' Thanks go to MovieHole for this one. - Bishop
There's a script review for the sequel to 'John Carpenter's Vampires' online right here, but be warned -- it contains spoilers for the basic plot and for the opening sequence, which contain something of a twist... - Bishop
Just when you thought that the Resident Evil series had left the Playstation 2 forever, Capcom finds a loophole. The regular run of the series may be confined to the GameCube, but now there's a new Resident Evil headed to the PS2, a sequel to the spinoff game 'Resident Evil: Survivor,' which was released on the original Playstation. In 'Resident Evil Survivor 2 - Code: Veronica,' you get to relive the Code: Veronica plotline from a first-person perspective. Take control of either Claire Redfield or Steve Burnside and mow down those virus-infested baddies. Check out Next Level Gaming for more pics and info. Thanks to Ezekial24 for the tipoff. - Bishop
Dark Horizons provided this test screening review of 'Blade 2,' but beware! Spoilers are contained within! - Bishop
Starlog talked a little with Todd, and he mentioned some things about the long-in-coming sequel to the 'Spawn' movie. Here's what the man had to say: "It's still Spawn. It's still Al Simmons. But there's no Jason, No Clown, No Hell. There's nothing. It's just about him now. At no time in my mind will you see Spawn in his full regalia, standing there in his cape and costume. I want to make the best movie possible. There's something about him being the Sentinel figure, lurking. Does he even exist? Is he a frigment of our imagination? I want to bring that aspect of how he can scare people without actually having to do anything to them." - Bishop
Updates for 11-19

Looks like Marilyn Manson is going to be writing the musical score for the new 'Resident Evil' film. Manson describes the music as being more electronic than his usual hard-edged rock. NME broke this one first. - Bishop
We should see this one come out next March, but until then, three clips that take you behind the scenes will have to suffice. Go to this site at ComingSoon.net to see them for yourself. - Bishop
Updates for 11-15
Yup, that's what they're calling it now. The new Special Edition of the original Evil Dead film is tentatively scheduled to hit stores in Febuary of 2002. For now, though, you can see the third prototype of the cover right up above. Very nice. The pic is courtesy of The Digital Bits. - Bishop

Once upon a time, there was a fourth 'Crow' film in the works, set to star rapper DMX. It was eventually changed, removed from the 'Crow' franchise to stand on its own. Then, it finally was canned altogether. Even so, you can read a script review of this dead project right here. - Bishop

Updates for 11-08
For years, fans have clamored for their maniacs to have victims to stand over. Now, there's a special Collector's Club exclusive on its way -- the "Body Bag," with two torn-up victims. The club flyer for this fall unleashed the details, saying that "Body #1 is six inches tall and is missing his left foot, right forearm and right hand. His chest is ripped open and he has a bloody flap of skin hanging off on the right side. Body #2 is 6 1/2 inches tall and features a ripped-open chest with spine and vertebrae exposed. The figure has peg holes in his feet if you want to put him on a stand. Both are rubbery and have grayish skin tone." Click here for a close-up of Body #1, here for a close-up of Body #2, and here for a bigger version of the above picture. - Bishop
Finally! It seems that the second 'X-Files' film is moving towards reality, and is currently expected to hit theaters about five years after the last one, in 2003. Variety broke the story, which you can read here. It makes mention of how the second film is planned as a Mulder and Scully vehicle, and will probably try to avoid the convoluted mythology, and instead stand on its own. Executive producers Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz are expected to begin writing the script for the film around the first months of 2002. After that, Fox will have to decide whether to greenlight another movie based on the aging series, and Duchovny and Anderson will have to be coaxed back. Neither should be too difficult, provided that the script doesn't make it appear that production will cost an arm and a leg. - Bishop
First we heard Rob Zombie say that he had a distributor whom he would not name, then an interview came out saying that there was no distributor yet. All were very confused, but now, once more, we're hearing from 93x that 'House of 1000 Corpses' indeed has a distributor, and will be released theatrically -- we just don't know who that distributor would be at this time. - Bishop
Care to taste some effects from Aaliyah's final film? This clip has been made available by GrayMatterFX. Kudos go to Dark Horizons for nabbing the scoop. - Bishop
As reported by Cinescape Online, producer Steven Paul is expecting a March or April of 2002 production start for the new 'Ghost Rider' film. He also stated that, despite how well negotiations had gone in the past, things with Nicolas Cage have essentially fallen through. Don't look for him to play Johnny Blaze. - Bishop
Updates for 11-06
Xena did it, Ally McBeal did it, Chicago Hope did it, and now, Buffy's doing it. It's a musical episode, and it's one of the most important entries of the year on Buffy. Tonight's airing is a singular opportunity, so remember to set those VCRs, because this bad boy will never air in its entirity again. If you want the original, full director's cut of this episode, you'll have to catch it tonight or else wait until it hits DVD in 2004. This first version will run one hour and eight minutes, so plan accordingly, because its going to spill over beyond its usual time slot. All future versions will edited down to one hour. Series creator Joss Whedon has made a habit of doing one unique, unorthodox episode for the past couple of years, and this year is no exception. With music written by Joss himself, the musical has been a long time in coming and is going to be a turning point for numerous characters. Joss is planning on releasing a soundtrack for the episode in the future, under his Mutant Enemy label. - Bishop On the new 'Boogeymen' DVD, there's a hidden easter egg of a scene from 'Jack Frost 2,' and in turn, that scene has "flixfacts" which reveal that, yes, 'Jack Frost 3' is being planned! Just when you thought it was safe to go walking in a winter wonderland... - Bishop During Thanksgiving week, FX is letting you do the programming. That means you control what episodes of various series will air in a number of different marathons -- including a day filled to the brim with 'Buffy' and another day cram-packed with 'The X-Files.' Vote here to help decide what we'll get thrown at us that week. - Bishop Updates for 11-05 Dark Horizons did it again, dropping these two gifts in our lap -- clips from from the eternally-forthcoming 'Jason X.' Both are in RealVideo format. Click here for the first and click here for the second. - Bishop The rumors of John Davis' involvement are apparently true -- and it seems that he's the reason that AvP is on the move again. According to a report at Dark Horizons, Davis, the producer of both 'Predator' films, has been trying for years to buy out the other producers involved in AvP, and finally succeeded. Now, Davis Entertainment has been shopping the project around to directors for six weeks now, and the current frontrunner is David Twohy, writer/director of 'Pitch Black.' - Bishop Jason Lee has confirmed to News Askew that he'll be in the film adaption of Stephen King's novel 'Dreamcatcher.' - Bishop Okay, here's an interesting twist on the Reality TV trend. CBS has just purchased a new 'Big Brother'-type program. The catch is, this one dumps the housemates inside a "haunted" Irish mansion. Showbiz Ireland heard about this one first. - Bishop An extra on the sequel to 'Interview with the Vampire' talks about her experiences on the set down at MovieHole. - Bishop It's a big week for monster/scare shows here in North America, so be on the lookout. Tonight, Angel begins its season's major arc in earnest, with the return of a very pregnant Darla in 'Offspring.' Buffy follows this up on Tuesday with the much-promoted musical episode, 'Once More, With Feeling,' which will never air in its entirity ever again after Tuesday's showing -- set those VCRs! Finally, The X-Files season premiere is this Sunday, where Duchovny will vanish and an entirely new credits sequence will appear in 'Nothing Important Happened Today, Part 1.' - Bishop Updates for 11-4 Well, Blade destroyed The Leprechaun in the first round of the Boogeymen Faceoff, just as it should be. Now we move to Round 2 where we match up the Shape with the Ghost. CLICK HERE FOR ROUND 2 OF THE MOVIEMANIACS.NET BOOGEYMEN FACEOFF After Debuting on the Minor league Cinemax, the 5th Creature Feature Film "The Day the World Ended" will make it's debut Friday November 23rd on HBO. Cinemax's Big Brother, will also air the original 4 films, seemingly, in their original order, so if you missed out the first time, don't let them slip by again!
